THE DESIGN PROCESS

We see the finished product all the time and never really take into account just how much work goes into a completed body of work.

Unlike art, architecture has a rhyme and a reason...a...a constitution. Architecture has a distinct process whose every decision is backed by informants and justifications. Yes it is an art form but it is not 'Willy Nilly'. Architecture seeks to tame art and bring rationality and a bit of pragmatism to its practice.

Though creativity is at the center of the art form, it is kept in check by the laws of physics and is subject to thermonuclear dynamics and other laws alike. IT HAS CONSEQUENCES. Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa has no real world implications and is not subjected to physical laws anywhere near what a building is. So that adds to the many woes that make the design process strenuous.

Architecture is, fundamentally, designing spaces for optimal human comfort and enjoyment and everything else follows but I digress...

The design process is, physically, emotionally, and mentally taxing. After the completion of each project I feel like I have aged a full year.
